  • 1 medium Yellow Onion 150g, diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 tsp Dried Parsley plus more for garnish
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano
  • 1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil 15ml

Equipment

  • 1 9x13 inch Rectangular White Ceramic Baking Dish Ceramic provides even heat distribution.
  • 1 Large Skillet Heavy-bottomed preferred for browning beef.

Method

Prepare the Base
  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet. Add ground beef and sear until a deep golden-brown crust forms before breaking into crumbles. Add onions and garlic and sauté until softened.
  2. Stir in tomato sauce, beef broth, and half the dried herbs. Simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
Assemble and Bake
  1. Gently fold the cooked fluffy rice into the beef and tomato mixture until evenly coated.
  2. Transfer to the ceramic dish. Top with a thick layer of shredded cheddar. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes until cheese shows golden toasted spots and oil beads.
  3. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with remaining dried parsley and oregano flakes. Rest for 10 minutes.

Notes

Use pre-cooked rice to prevent a mushy texture.
Freshly grated cheese is essential for the best bubble and golden spots.
