Ingredients

Slider Components
  • 12 count Hawaiian sweet rolls One standard pack, kept as a single slab
  • 1 lb (450g) deli ham Thinly sliced or shaved
  • 12 slices Swiss cheese Approximately 8-10 oz (225-280g)
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter Melted
  • 1.5 tbsp (22g) Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp (9g) poppy seeds
  • 1 tbsp (5g) minced dried onions
  • 1/2 tsp (2g) garlic powder
  • 1 tsp (5ml) Worcestershire sauce

Equipment

  • 1 9x13 inch metal baking pan Metal is preferred over glass for crisper bottoms.
  • 1 Serrated Bread Knife Essential for slicing rolls without squishing them.
  • 1 Pastry Brush To evenly apply the glaze.

Method

Preparation and Assembly
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the entire block of rolls horizontally with a serrated knife. Place the bottom slab into a 9x13 inch metal baking pan.
  2. Layer 6 slices of Swiss cheese on the bottom buns. Fold the thin ham slices and layer them over the cheese. Top with the remaining 6 slices of Swiss cheese, ensuring they hang slightly over the edges. Place the top roll slab back on.
Glazing and Baking
  1. Whisk melted butter, Dijon, poppy seeds, dried onions, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce until emulsified.
  2. Brush the glaze generously over the rolls, ensuring the onion bits are well distributed. Pour any extra glaze around the pan edges.
  3. Cover the pan tightly with foil and bake for 15 minutes to melt the cheese and steam the ham.
  4. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes until the tops are golden-brown and the cheese is drooping and bubbly.

Notes

Use shaved ham for more volume and air pockets.
A metal pan ensures a crispier bottom than glass.
