Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed according to package directions
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese freshly shredded
  • 2 large jalapeños finely diced, seeds and membranes removed for less heat
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tsp of water
  • 1 tsp coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Equipment

  • 1 Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • 1 Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Pizza Cutter

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, diced jalapeños, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until evenly combined.
  3. Gently unfold the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Spread the cream cheese mixture in an even layer over the pastry. Fold the pastry sheet in half over the filling and press down gently.
  4. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the folded pastry into 1-inch wide strips. Gently twist each strip 3-4 times and place it on the prepared baking sheet, about 1-inch apart.
  5. Brush the tops of the twists with the egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until puffed and deep golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Spice Level: Control the heat by removing all seeds and membranes from the jalapeños for mild twists, or leave some in for a spicier kick.
Dough Choice: You can substitute the puff pastry with a can of crescent roll dough. Simply press the seams together to form a rectangle before spreading the filling.
