Ingredients

  • 2 slices thick-cut bread like Texas toast or sourdough
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter softened
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1/4 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp pizza sauce
  • 1 slice provolone cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
  • 8-10 slices pepperoni

Equipment

  • 1 Non-stick Skillet
  • 1 Spatula

Method

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning until well combined.
  2. Spread the garlic butter on one side of each slice of bread. On the other side of each slice, spread the pizza sauce. On one slice, layer the provolone, pepperoni, and mozzarella cheese. Top with the second slice of bread, butter-side up.
  3. Place the sandwich in a skillet over medium-low heat. Cook for 3-5 minutes on each side, until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is fully melted.
  4. Slice in half and serve immediately.

Notes

Low and Slow Heat: Cook over medium-low heat to ensure the cheese melts perfectly without burning the bread.
Shred Your Own Cheese: For the best cheese pull, shred a block of low-moisture mozzarella yourself.
Don't Overdo Sauce: Use just enough sauce to avoid making the bread soggy.
